About: Extra Democratic: Solutions Outside of the Ballot Box follows six young organizers in Atlanta, Georgia creating real change beyond traditional democratic methods. Being ‘Extra Democratic’ expands how voters and young people think about social change.
Voting is often seen as the only solution to systemic issues—but it’s not one-size-fits-all. I set out to challenge the “don’t complain if you don’t vote” mindset—one that dismisses the voices of people shut out of the system, from undocumented communities to incarcerated individuals, youth, and others who bear the brunt of its failures without ever getting a say in how to evolve it.
What happens when voting isn't the end-all and be-all for change?
Production: As a producer of Extra Democratic, I secured grant funding, ran the budget, managed production from pre- to post-, and co-edited with the director to shape a compelling narrative. I also led a dynamic cross-platform campaign to drive viewership ahead of launch.
